In December 2021, Indian retailer Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd was breached and subjected to a ransom demand, which was allegedly rejected. As a result, data containing 5.4 million unique email addresses was publicly dumped on a popular hacking forum the following month. The compromised data included extensive personal customer information such as names, phone numbers, physical addresses, dates of birth, order histories, and passwords stored as MD5 hashes.
