About This Breach
In November 2023, the kitchen management app KitchenPal experienced a data breach that exposed 146,000 lines of data. When contacted, KitchenPal clarified that the data came from a staging environment but acknowledged that it included a small number of real users for debugging purposes. Although the passwords were unusable, the compromised data included nearly 100,000 email addresses, names, geolocations, and incomplete information on dates of birth, genders, height, weight, social media profile identifiers, and bcrypt password hashes. This breach highlights the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures, even in test environments, to safeguard user data and prevent unauthorized access.
