About This Breach
Around January 2015, MCResolver, an IP-resolver service popular within the Minecraft community that mapped player usernames to the IP addresses they had connected from, suffered a data breach exposing roughly 13 million username-to-IP records (approximately 2.45 million distinct usernames). The exposed data contained Minecraft usernames paired with IP addresses, and for many records the reverse-DNS hostnames of those IP addresses; no passwords, email addresses or payment information were included. Such resolver data enables privacy harms and targeted DDoS attacks against players. The dataset was later distributed on the BreachForums hacker forum and subsequently redistributed via Telegram.
