About This Breach
In June 2018, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Mortal Online suffered a data breach. A file containing 570,000 records of emails and cracked passwords was initially distributed online. Later, a more complete file surfaced. This file contained emails, original unsalted MD5 password hashes, along with names, usernames, and physical addresses. This breach highlights the dangers of using weak, unsalted hashes and emphasizes the need for stronger encryption practices to protect sensitive user data.
