About This Breach
In July 2016, a link to an alleged data breach involving BlueSnap, a global payment gateway and merchant account provider, surfaced. The breach exposed 324,000 payment records containing 105,000 unique email addresses as well as personal details such as names, home addresses, phone numbers. The breach also exposed partial credit card information. It was later discovered that Regpack, a downstream consumer of BlueSnap’s services, was the source of the breach due to human error, which left transaction data exposed on a publicly accessible server. This incident underscores the importance of stringent cybersecurity practices, especially when handling sensitive financial information.
