About This Breach
In July 2012, the SilabGarza vBulletin forum, which was dedicated to a Runescape private server, suffered a data breach. The breach exposed data from over 105,000 users, including email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. The use of salted MD5 hashes provided a layer of protection, but MD5 remains a weak hashing algorithm susceptible to cracking. This breach highlights the importance of updating cryptographic practices to protect user data more effectively against evolving cybersecurity threats. Proper data security measures are essential to prevent such vulnerabilities from being exploited.
