It was founded in 2006 by Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen. The platform provides a space for writers to publish their works, whether they are novels, short stories, or poems. In June 2020, Wattpad, experienced a significant data breach, revealing nearly 270 million records. The compromised data was first sold and later made public on a hacking forum, where it was widely disseminated. This incident exposed a wide range of personal information, including names, usernames, email and IP addresses, genders, birth dates, and passwords stored in bcrypt hashes.
