In January 2023, approximately 1.4 million records originating from the Autotrader online vehicle marketplace surfaced on a widely known hacking forum. Autotrader clarified that the "data under scrutiny pertains to historical listing data that was predominantly accessible to the public on our platform at the time, accessible via automated collection methods." The dataset comprised 20,000 distinct email addresses, in addition to dealer contact information, such as physical addresses and phone numbers, along with comprehensive vehicle details, including VIN numbers.
