About This Breach
In May 2017, Bell Canada experienced a significant data breach, exposing millions of customer records. The attacker leaked the data online, accompanied by a message stating they were releasing "a significant portion of Bell.ca's data" due to Bell's failure to cooperate with their demands, and threatened to leak more. The breach compromised over 2 million unique email addresses and 153,000 survey results from 2011 and 2012. Additionally, 162 Bell employee records were exposed, containing more detailed personal information such as names, phone numbers, and plain text "passcodes." This breach followed a similar incident in 2014, which exposed 40,000 records. These recurring breaches highlight the need for stronger security measures to protect sensitive data.
