In November 2024, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) experienced a major data breach caused by an open directory on one of its servers. This misconfiguration exposed sensitive records of over 666,435 individuals. The leaked data, totaling 309MB in a CSV file, included Person IDs, Crime IDs, first and last names, dates of birth, addresses, cities, states, ZIP codes, sex, race, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and states, occupations, employer names, mobile numbers, and geographic coordinates.
