About This Breach
In early 2023, a dataset from the New Zealand-based face mask company MEO was discovered, containing customer records dating back to December 2020. The breach exposed over 8,000 customer records, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords stored as MD5 WordPress hashes. Despite multiple attempts to report the breach, MEO did not respond. This incident emphasizes the importance of implementing proper cybersecurity measures and timely breach reporting, as it is vital to protect customer data and prevent the use of outdated and vulnerable security protocols like MD5.
