About This Breach
In June 2023, the Indian online life and general insurance company RenewBuy suffered a data breach that exposed nearly 900k user accounts. The compromised data included email addresses, partial bank account numbers, dates of birth, partial credit card and bank account details, geographic locations, names, physical addresses, phone numbers, and passwords stored as PBKDF2 hashes. This breach raised significant concerns about the safety of sensitive financial and personal information, especially given the presence of both partial credit card and bank data, which could be used for fraudulent activities.
