About This Breach
In May 2026, Betterment, a US-based automated investing and financial advisory platform (robo-advisor), was affected by a data breach attributed to the threat group ShinyHunters as part of a wider campaign targeting Salesforce and connected cloud CRM systems. The breach exposed approximately 1.4 million records. The compromised data included email addresses, first and last names, phone numbers, dates of birth, genders, and physical location details such as city, state and postal code. No account passwords were exposed. The data was published on the ShinyHunters data leak site after the ransom was not paid, and was subsequently distributed via Telegram.
