In July 2018, VCANBUY, a Thailand-based cross-border e-commerce platform facilitating orders from Chinese marketplaces such as Taobao, 1688, Tmall, and VVIC to users in Southeast Asia—including Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia—suffered a data breach that affected 133,797 users. The compromised data included email addresses and MD5 password hashes. Users should upgrade to stronger passwords and avoid services that use outdated hashing algorithms like MD5.
