In 2018, mcls.gov.ir, the online portal of the Iranian Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, suffered a data breach that exposed approximately 260 thousand records. The compromised data contained full names, national identification numbers, dates of birth, gender, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses and IP addresses. The records were distributed via Telegram, having originally been shared on a cybercrime forum.
